Advantages of buying a bungalows and duplex homes
Buying and living in a duplex home gives you the advantage of renting half of the unit and using the revenue to pay toward your mortgage repayments. Keep in mind that your renters may or may not pay the rent; some do not take care of their living space, and could cause more damage than they pay rent.
Caring for your parents is an advantage of owing a duplex. You live in one half and your parents live in the other saving you travel time in case of an emergency. This might even be an advantage because they could maybe pay a portion of the mortgage payment so your part would be less as well.
Disadvantages
When renting out half of your home especially to someone you don’t know much about your taking a chance on them keeping up with their share of the payment. Don’t rely on the rent money to help pay your mortgage. Renters don’t always take care of other people’s property. Beware they could cause a lot of damage and it could end up by costing you a lot in repairs.
